Singer teases his new project by pointing to past hits like 'Yeah!' and 'OMG.'
By James Montgomery
With the success of songs like "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love," "Hot Tottie" and "OMG," Usher had himself a fairly massive 2010. But rather than rest on his laurels, he's looking to build on his big year, not with an album, but with a "movement."
It's something he's calling "Rev Pop" — or, simply, "Rev" — and though he's already teased his idea in a video with David Guetta (Akon is also involved), he has yet to speak in full about it. So when MTV News caught up with Ush before the 53rd annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles at the (Belvedere) RED launch party, we asked him about his next musical endeavor. And though he didn't reveal much, he did let it be known that "Rev" isn't exactly something new. In fact, he's been doing it for a while now.
"I'll give it to you this way: At a later date, I'll tell you more about Rev Pop, but if I were to give you a flash: I've done it before, I did it with 'Yeah!' " he said, "taking a cultural experience, and also worldwide recognition of a feeling, and putting the soul in the middle of it. Not allowing it to shift heavily to R&B genre, or pop. I did it again with 'OMG,' once again putting the soul in the middle of it, which was an electric-pop experience, with the soul.
"It's bringing those elements together to tell a story, that was born here," he said, gesturing toward his heart, "And that's what Rev Pop is. There's more, I mean, I could really elaborate, but that's just what I'm going to tell you right now. 'Rev' is what it's called ... the movement is called Rev."
Usher wouldn't say just when his fans would be getting their first taste of Rev, but whenever they do, it sounds like they're going to be impressed ... if not a little shocked.
"Stay alive," he smiled, "Because you're definitely going to be in for a surprise."

Now that we've entered the month of April, it seems justifiable to start hyping this summer's potential blockbusters. Not that we haven't been already, but it feels like the big summer movies are just around the corner — one of those being the highly anticipated "Transformers: Dark of the Moon."
MTV News caught up with the franchise's new leading lady, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, recently at CinemaCon to discuss her experience on the film and getting caught up in director Michael Bay's workaholic web.
"I've seen the last two movies, so I kind of knew what I was getting into, but obviously not at all as well," Whiteley said of being a bit overwhelmed by the big movie experience. "It was a crazy opportunity that was handed to me, and I spent seven months making the movie with a great cast and a great director, and it's been a roller coaster of a lifetime for sure," she said. "I'm still on it, I don't know if I'm going to get off anytime soon."
Regarding Bay, Whiteley described him as a "character" with lots of energy: "I think throughout my whole career, I've never seen anybody work so hard in my whole life," she said. "He's literally done these 'Transformers' movies for six years now. As cast, we do the filming for seven months, then he goes into the edit room and edits it for six months, then he comes out of the edit room and promotes it, and by the time he's finished that, he's prepping the next one," she explained. "It's amazing to see how dedicated he is to these films."

I love you, Rio Ferdinand, even though I know I shouldn't. Ever since that June day last year when you signed off your first tweet with "let da fun commence", things have never really been the same for me. Normally I steer clear of footballers' twitter accounts. The spelling is dreadful, the content mundane ("Just arrived at Tesco" - Liverpool FC's Lucas Leiva) and there is A LOT of quacking on about the referee.
But you are different from the rest, Rio - never afraid to tackle the issues that matter, whether it be current affairs:
"Twitter+facebook(social media)played a significant role in the revolution in Egypt.We are involved(if not directly)in a powerful #movement !"
"Take me out is on....love this show! Since blind date+cilla was taken off our screens I've been waiting for a show to take its cheers paddy!!!"
There is always room for improvement, however, so here are some top tips for you.
The Rio Q&A sessions, where you answer questions from your followers, are too football-centric. "Who is your quickest team-mate?", "What is the best game you have ever played in?" These questions belong on Match of the Day. Instead, you should be answering things like "Who is the mother of Cristiano Ronaldo's baby?" "Does Wayne Rooney have a spotty bum?" "Who is the hottest wag?" Give us a little sugar, Rio!
Because this "If I have a daughter+she wants to get married+asks for the budget of a gypsy wedding she'll get drop kicked then told to wake the hell up!!" won't do.
I saw you last week with Lily Allen, Rio. It all began innocently enough. You'd both had a bad day with cancelled trains and shared your commuter hell stories. Next thing I know, you're saying "That stew your mum cooked(on your show)looked noice...should of invited me round for the family dinner a bit earlier 2day+let me polish it!" and organising a Come Dine With Me night. Footballers and pop stars don't mix, Rio. Ask Ashley.
You play for the biggest football club in the world and have more than 689,000 followers in your #twitfam. You have clout. Don't be afraid to keep asking the questions that matter, Rio. We never did get an answer to this: "How come whenever anyone moves in eastenders with huge suitcases....they lift them like they are lifting a bag a feathers!?" More please.
You're a grown man. Write like one.
Lots of love

LOS ANGELES — Perez Hilton had two wishes for his birthday this year.
The 33-year-old blogger, who celebrated in grand Hollywood fashion on Saturday night at a Sunset Boulevard studio in Los Angeles, says that if he has his way, two things will come to pass: Lady Gaga's Born This Way will be a super hot-selling album and teen bullying will cease.
"My birthday wish for this year is for Lady Gaga's new album, Born This Way, to sell over 1.2 million copies the first week," he said, pausing to give off a mock-sinister laugh. "That would beat Taylor Swift's 1.1-something!"
That was actually the only kind-of-mean thing the notorious blogger said at his Blue Ball Birthday Bash on Saturday. And it could be the last. Perez said he has cleaned up his act, largely due to the teen bullying that's been well-documented over the past year.
"When there was that rash of gay teenagers committing suicide last year, and the bullying that is still going on, I was so moved. So moved that I changed how I operate on my website. When it came time to do my birthday, the idea came to me to raise money for charity and, of course, I wanted it to be a LBGT organization. And of course it was important for to work with one for young people," he told MTV News.
So what does that kind of change mean? For starters, it means Perez may not have to duck celebrities anymore. He's been trying to stick to the facts, he said, and do less of the ad-libs like drawing on their paparazzi photographs. He also opened up about how he apologized to Jennifer Aniston for how he treated her over the years on his blog.
"The great thing about being the new and more positive Perez is that I, hopefully, will be having less awkward, uncomfortable, negative confrontations with people," he said. "But hey, I'm a big boy. I've done things in the past I'm not that proud of."
What do you think of Perez's birthday wishes? Tell us in the comments!
